For virtual fiscalization, it is stated in the public notice that all registered operators who are required to fiscalize under the Value Added Tax Act are obliged to comply and onboard FDMS through either:
- a) Upgrading their existing hardware fiscal device through an approved supplier and complying with the FDMS OR,
- b) Consider utilizing the ZIMRA Virtual Fiscalization platform through the following alternatives:
- i) Direct interface of the taxpayer server to the ZIMRA server using the ZIMRA Fiscalization Application Programming Interface (API) in compliance with the fiscalization requirement, or
- ii) Direct interface of the taxpayer Accounting System, Point of Sale System (POS), and/or Invoicing Systems with the ZIMRA Fiscalization Data Management System [FDMS] through the use of Application Programming Interface (API)
Technical documentation and API integration are also available.
To summarise, taxpayers can still use hardware devices but upgrade them, or they can „connect“ their POS SW with ZIMRA service and be in compliance with the fiscalization rules
