Fiscal subject related
A provision included in an amendment submitted to Parliament by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance provides that "the Minister of National Economy and Finance is given the opportunity to identify specific activities in which tax evasion is observed by avoiding card payments, and for these to define a special type of signage, with which professionals in Greek and English will inform their customers about their ability to accept payments via EFT-POS and will also provide a phone for relevant complaints.
Those who fail to comply with this obligation will be fined 1,000 euros by the AADE or the General Secretariat for Consumers.
The list of professional categories is yet to be determined by the Minister of National Economy. The special sign for accepting such payments will also indicate a phone number on which citizens can report those who neglect to comply.
With the adoption of this provision, a relevant ministerial decision will be issued with the categories of professionals who should have the special label. According to preliminary information, the list will include taxis, street market vendors, some tourist businesses, etc. This list will be updated depending on the findings on the market and with the official list soon.
In addition, the provision enables AADE to proceed with audits for the compliance of businesses, especially in view of the intensification of checks on businesses on whether they provide the possibility of paying with POS and whether payment machines are interconnected with cash registers. Those who will be set to comply but choose not to do so could face an administrative fine of €1,000.
