The Ordinance on the Conditions and Manner of Implementing Seasonal Discounts (Official Gazette No. 117/22) outlines how seasonal discounts should be applied in Croatia.
By Article 3 of the Regulations on the conditions and manner of implementing seasonal discounts, seasonal discounts take place twice a year, as follows:
- The winter seasonal sale starts on December 27th.
- The summer seasonal discount starts on July 1st.
The seasonal discount can last for a maximum of 60 days, counting from the specified dates.
Retailers can continue selling unsold items at their lowest discounted price after the discount period ends, but they cannot advertise this as a special sale.
Retailers must clearly show the lowest price they offered in the 30 days before the seasonal discount alongside the new reduced price. If prices are gradually reduced during the discount period, both the lowest prior price and the new price must be displayed.
These rules do not apply to advertising services or contracts for services made outside business premises or at a distance.
Overall, this ordinance aims to ensure transparency and fairness in how seasonal discounts are presented to consumers, helping them make informed purchasing decisions.
