General information
In June 2021, more than 6 million invoices with the Tax Identification Number (NIF) were registered in the accommodation, culture, and restaurant sectors.
The aforementioned number of invoices issued with the TIN of consumers in the sectors covered by the IVAucher Program corresponds to an increase of 34% compared to June 2020, and consumption totaling 167 million euros.
The VAT balance accumulated by Portuguese taxpayers in the IVAucher Program during June amounts to 21.2 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of 48% compared to the value registered in June 2020.
To use the accumulated amount, which can happen from October 1, users need to join the IVAucher program, by associating their bank card with the respective NIF.
Even though membership only has to take place before using the benefit, to date more than 102 thousand consumer memberships have already been registered in the mentioned program.
Over the past few weeks, the team which is responsible for the implementation of the IVAucher Program has promoted several sessions with associations representing the sectors in question, to clarify traders on the different ways of making the Program available to consumers, universal and free solutions for such.
The IVA voucher is a temporary Portuguese government program created to boost consumption in the sectors most affected by the pandemic. The program allows consumers to accumulate the amount of VAT paid in accommodation, culture, and restaurants, and use it later as a form of benefit in the same sectors.
IVAucher has two phases:
1st phase: between June 1 and August 31, 2021 – consumers can accumulate VAT paid on purchases made in the three mentioned sectors. To do so, consumers should simply request an invoice with their Tax Identification Number (NIF)
2nd phase: between October 1 and December 31, 2021 – consumers can benefit from the accumulated VAT in any of the three covered sectors, up to a limit of 50% per purchase.
